This February is the sixth annual Women In Horror Month. Yes, this is February 20th, but I did a post at the beginning of February last year and I didn’t want to say all the same things. Also, most people post about it in the first couple of weeks, which means there are a plethora of blog posts and articles on the topic.
The stereotype that horror fans are all adolescent white boys is laughably false. I’ve volunteered at the door at Calgary Horror Con for the past couple of years, and both the fans and the volunteers are evenly divided among all genders, age groups, and ethnicities. It’s important that people involved with the genre are aware of and respect the actual creators and audience, rather than the presumed creators and audience.
