I took a bit of a break from my novel rewrites over the past couple of weeks to concentrate on short stories. I’m applying for an exclusive six-week workshop, and for an anthology. I also became a semi-finalist (woo! better than quarter finals!) for a screenwriting fellowship. Yesterday I found out that I didn’t get into said fellowship. Oh well. Onwards and upwards, as they say, and making it to the semi-finals isn’t nothing. I’ll keep writing and submitting to things and if I keep improving my work, then it isn’t a stretch to believe that my efforts will pay off in some capacity.
I’ve also recently dipped my toe into the wide digital waters of Scribophile, an online community and critique group for writers. It looks promising.
Last week I went to Noir At The Bar at Dickens Pub in Calgary, which I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to hear local crime writers read from their work. Shadows, fedoras, and murder, oh my!
